A single occupant in a vehicle that was struck by an Amtrak train on Thursday night was able to exit the vehicle and walk away. Authorities are saying they believe alcohol played a factor in the crash.

The accident occurred on Pittsburg Road near Reed Road in Vernon Township. Authorities say a 33 year old woman drove around the crossing arm and struck the passing train, which was carrying 108 passengers.
Police located the woman walking not far from the crash site. She was transported to Hurley Medical Center in Flint.
Buses transported the train's passengers, who were traveling aboard Amtrak's Bluewater from Chicago to Port Huron, the rest of the way to their destinations, including stops at Durand Union Station, in Flint, Lapeer and Port Huron.
