Shiawassee County Sheriff Brian BeGole will remain on the job, as the final votes have been counted after Tuesday's election. BeGole was challenged by Joe Ibarra, whom BeGole said on Wednesday, "continued to wage a negative campaign to the very end and engaged in unethical behavior, unfounded allegations and misinformation."
Ibarra also ran against BeGole in 2016. BeGole defeated Ibarra swiftly in that race, taking nearly 70% of the vote. On Tuesday, BeGole recaptured 62% of those votes.
"I would like to thank my family, campaign volunteers, and staff for all of their support, hard work and assistance leading up to Election Day. More importantly I would like to thank the voters of Shiawassee County for giving me the opportunity to serve them for another four years. There is still a lot to be done to continue the improvement of services offered by your Shiawassee County Sheriff's Office," BeGole said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
