The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning until 8pm Saturday July 20th.

Extreme heat is forecasted for this weekend, with heat index values expected to top 100 degrees on Friday. Stay hydrated. Stay cool. Remember to keep your pets hydrated and cool and check on the health and safety of your neighbors.

Friday July 19th may just be the hottest day of the summer. As a dangerous heat wave oppresses the region, several Shiawassee county locations are welcoming guests for relief from the dangerous heat.

The Shiawassee County on Aging has opened its facilities in Owosso, Durand and Morrice.  Several other area facilities will be open as well.

All facilities are open for cooling activities only.

Additionally, the City of Owosso welcomes guests to the Splash Pad at Bentley Park, and to sprinklers at the following locations:

Adams Park - near the playset
Fayette Square
Holman Grove - east of the old pool building

All sprinklers will run from 1pm until 8pm on Friday July 19th and Saturday July 20th. DPW will start and stop the sprinklers.

During this period of excessive heat, it is critical to stay hydrated, stay cool, and remember to keep pets hydrated and cool and check on your neighbors' safety and health.  It is also critical to know the signs of heat stroke. Click here for more information.
