While most we heard from ahead of Tuesday's election acknowledged that a new jail is needed, many questioned the cost of the project.

One resident asked why the proposed Shiawassee County Jail would cost $70 million while Saginaw County will see a new jail at nearly half that cost. Sheriff BeGole said the projected highest cost of the facility was $37.7 million, but the actual cost could be less. It's unclear where this resident's apparent misconception of the cost of the jail comes from, but is an example of an apparent lack of clarity to residents of the project's details.
