"Right now, the economy is strong with unemployment under four percent, wages rising, and Americans keeping more of their own money," an email from Congressman John Moolenaar to constituents reads.
"However, there is legislation in the U.S. House that would raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour," it continues.
"I believe this legislation creates an unfair, one-size-fits-all solution to a state and local issue. In Michigan, the state has already raised the minimum wage above the current federal level.
Creating this new burden would raise costs on small businesses in our community and make it harder for them to hire new workers for temporary work, including summer jobs.

Moolenaar noted a recent CBS News poll in which 71% of Americans, including 60% of Democrats, say the condition of the economy is good. The poll also shows 66% of Independents and 94% of Republicans agree.
