Two inches of rain fell at the Waste Water Treatment Plant during an hour and a half period this morning. The sewage overflow is a result of this heavy rain event along with the presence of saturated soil conditions due to recent rains in the local area.

SCHD advises that recreational users of the Shiawassee River avoid contact with the water until further notice. Residents are urged to use caution when travelling in low lying areas as flooding is occurring throughout Shiawassee County.

For further information please contact Glenn M. Chinavare, Director of Public Utilities for the City of Owosso at (989) 725-0550 or Casey D. Elliott, Director of Environmental Health, Shiawassee County Health Department at (989) 743-2390.
