UPDATE: A Friday afternoon update from Durand Superintendent Craig McCrumb advises that after conducting interviews and reviewing videotape, Durand police and school officials have determined the stranger danger incident that was reported to have happened along a service drive on Durand schools property did not happen as it was reported.

An incident that occurred on school property on Wednesday involving a Durand middle school student has prompted Durand and neighboring districts to caution parents.

A communication from Durand Superintendent Craig McCrumb sent to parents on Thursday says that on Wednesday after school, a black compact crossover with a middle aged man behind the wheel and another man in the backseat pulled up alongside a middle school student who was walking from the middle school to Robert Kerr Elementary. The men asked the student if she wanted a ride. She declined. Then, the men told her to get into the car. She, again, told them "no" and pulled out her phone to take a picture. At this point, the men drove off.

This situation occurred on the service drive near the FFA greenhouse.

McCrumb encouraged parents to talk to their kids about these types of dangers. He said this student knew exactly what to do because she and her mom had discussed how to handle this type of situation many times.

The same email sent to Durand parents was also sent to parents in the Corunna school district.

The district is working with the Durand Police Department in regards to the incident, McCrumb said.
