Tom Barrett Sworn In As 24th District State Senator

Sen. Tom Barrett, R-Charlotte, was sworn in as senator for the 24th District last week during a ceremony at the state Capitol. Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Stephen J. Markman administered the oath of office.

Barrett was joined on the Senate floor by his wife Ashley and their children Patrick, Eleanora and Gwendolyn. Barrett’s father Patrick, mother Mary Anne, father-in-law Patrick Allen, mother-in-law Jeanene Allen, and family friend Louanne Planchon were also in attendance for the ceremony. 

“I am honored to be able to serve the people of mid-Michigan as their state senator,” Barrett said. “We have made great strides to revitalize our state and expand opportunities for current and future residents, and I am committed to working together to build on that success and help improve the lives of all Michigan families.”

A single occupant in a vehicle that was struck by an Amtrak train on Thursday night was able to exit the vehicle and walk away. Authorities are saying they believe alcohol played a factor in the crash.
