A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Shiawassee and Genesee County. Snow, ice and wind are all potential factors with the system, but if we're taking a hyper-local look at what we should expect in the Corunna area, here's what brand new data is showing right now:

Expect 4 inches of snow by Tuesday morning. By Wednesday morning, look for an additional two inches of snow accumulation, for a storm total of 6 inches of snow.

The I-69 corridor is basically the line that's being drawn between a snow-only event and a "wintry mix;" the combination of snow, freezing rain and ice accumulation. North of 69, the snow accumulations increase dramatically. South of 69, less snow is expected, but that doesn't diminish the impact of this storm. In fact, some might argue the impact will be greater.

The further south we look, the greater likelihood of ice accumulation. That, of course, can bring its own set of problems.

But exactly how much ice are we looking at in Corunna?

As of right now, punching in the exact latitude and longitude coordinates of downtown Corunna, the GFS (American) model prediction is that we will see zero inches of ice. That's right. Not even a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation. The updated forecast shows the same for all of Shiawassee County.

This appears to be strictly a snow event for us.

And then there's the wind, which is expected to complicate things.

With all that being said, the shift of a degree or two could change how things play out for us because we're right on that dividing line between snow and wintry mix, so don't rule out more freezing rain. In the Detroit area, the forecast is calling for a quarter inch of ice on Tuesday.

We'll be looking closely at updated forecast models and will alert of you of any notable changes. As always, we'll let you know about school closings or delays and potential traffic issues as well. It's all still free on CorunnaNow.com.
