Corunna Middle School Student Headed to Germany to Join Team USA

Alison Wright is a 6th Grader at Corunna Middle School, and next week, she'll be one of the first Michigan dancers to join Team USA and compete at the "Olympics of Dance."  The World Tap Dance Championship happens November 28th through December 2nd in Riesa, Germany, and three girls from Michigan are on the team this year. 

Wright, Caroline Julian, a junior at South Lyon High School, and Alisa Zhavoronkova, a freshman at Northville High School, pictured together below, are among dancers from 12 states that fill out the team.  Dancers auditioned for the US National Team and were selected based on skill level, performance quality and experience.

SHERIFF ADDRESSES EARLIER INCIDENT AT COURT
Subject Flees Court, Being Sought; Public Asked to Report Suspicious Activity

On today’s date at approximately 11:21 am, there was an incident at the 66th District Court Building. Law enforcement on the scene, handling the incident, did not feel County Offices, residents or businesses in the Corunna area were in any danger.

Corunna Public Schools were placed in Secure Mode for precautionary measures during that time. The incident occurred when the subject exited the court house and fled the scene after having his bond increased. At the time of the hearing this subject was not in custody or a prisoner of the Shiawassee County Jail.

As part of their preparation, the girls traveled to Boston for five weekends of intense training sessions of up to 16 hours.

The team will compete against tap dance teams from 32 countries -- a total of 1,300 dancers.

The competition will be viewable via live stream at ido-dance.com.

The girls are incredibly honored to be representing the Unites States and the State of Michigan and hope to bring back the Gold Medal!
