A power outage is impacting thousands of customers in numerous counties. The majority of customers impacted are in Genesee County, but a growing number are impacted in Shiawassee County. The northeast corner of Shiawassee County, including New Lothrop, is without power. The outage begins just east of State Road and stretches across the county line to just west of Elms Road in Genesee County. However, the outage also stretches north into Saginaw County and in that county includes customers beyond Elms Road to the east. The outage impacts Shiawassee County as far south as south of Juddville Road along N. Durand Road.
TVC Cable service, based in Lennon, was briefly interrupted as a result of that outage. 89.7 Smile FM (WTAC-FM), whose Fenton transmitter was also affected, moved to generator power.
Customers in southwest Genesee County are also experiencing loss of power service, from east of Gaines all the way to U.S. 23 and from as far north as north of Baldwin Road to crossing the southern county line and stretching into Livingston County, impacting customers in Cohoctah Township. Some customers in the Holly area in Oakland County are also affected.
While not all the outage areas have been assessed yet, Consumers Energy projects service to be restored to a majority of customers this afternoon. There's no word yet on the cause of the outages.

VIDEO: BALL DROPS IN OWOSSO...LITERALLY
Lit Ball Lowered to Ring in 2018 Breaks Loose and Slams Into Platform
Despite bone-chilling sub-zero temperatures, hundreds of people poured onto downtown Owosso streets to usher in the new year with a Times Square-style ball drop. The ball lowered in a seemingly usual fashion, but moments before midnight, seemed to get stuck. Then, less than a minute after the clock struck midnight and Auld Lang Syne began playing; fireworks illuminating the sky, somehow the ball broke free and fell, crashing into the platform below.
